What You’ll Need to Draw a Strawberry Basket
Iām not going to gatekeep drawing so you are absolutely welcome to just use what you have to draw with me <3. That includes:
But I will be drawing it digitally on my tablet using the most affordable software I know, Clip Studio Paint.
I got it because I loved that you get access to a continuously-updated vault of free natural brushes and other materials made by pros to speed up & elevate your drawing process, perfect for beginners.
And you get all of that for a lifetime just by paying once (gasp)! Trust me, those monthly membership fees add up and I want you to be happily creating cute art without breaking the bankšµš«.
But anyways, choose your non-lethal drawing weapon and letās get started!
How to Draw a Strawberry Basket Step-by-Step
1. Draw the Basket Base
So first, draw a brown oval for the basket opening.
So now, draw a soft ‘L’ curve down from the left side of your oval. That’s the start of our basket base!
So next, continue that curve until you reach the other side of your ovalāØ

2. Draw the Basket Handle
Then a little basket handle is a must. So draw a curve extending up from the top left side of your oval.
Then complete it on the other side. Mine has a little crook in it but not all handles are created equally. So you can go ahead and draw yours smoothly.
So now, add another ‘n’ curved handle because one is just not enough.

3. Draw the Strawberries
Then we need something inside our basket to munch on. Around these parts, we believe in strawberry supremacy so draw a wide curve for your 1st strawberry!
So next, draw a soft ‘n’ curve in the middle for the next strawberry.
Then mirror your left curve to form your last strawberry. At this point, they look like eggs but they’re just chonked out strawberries.
4. Draw Whipped Cream
So after that, we’re gonna fill this basket with cream! In reality, I can’t imagine anyone actually doing this but my drawing brain demands cream so we shall have it.
But if your drawing brain is raging against the idea, here are some other cute & easy alternatives to draw:
- Strawberry Jam: You can also use this drawing as a base for a peanut jar to make a PB&J duo
- Juice Box: You’re gonna need a little sip sip for your picnic & this juice box tutorial has your back.
- Strawberry Pocky: Whoever goes to picnics without a little snack has more self-control than me & hopefully you too. So here’s a strawberry pocky drawing tutorial you’ll love.
But if your drawing brain is in synergy with mine then let’s draw these cloud-like curves using the top of the oval as a guide.
Then continue until you reach the end.
So then, draw some smaller curves in the middle of the whipped cream. This is gonna start forming a pocket for a special basket surpriseāØ
So next, continue drawing more curves until you have something like this:
Then erase the part of the curve that overlaps with your cream and start drawing curves that somewhat look like mermaid scales on the basket’s base.
So now, keep drawing the mermaid scales or stone path-like curves. Even baskets deserve their mermaid moment.

5. Draw the Basket’s Bumps
Then, make sure to vary the size and direction of the basket bumps to make it a little more interesting.
So keep doing that until the middle.
Then, finish the basket bumps on the left side.
6. Draw the Woven Details of the Handle
But we can’t leave our basket handle in its uggo state. So let’s draw some defining curves. Start on the left.
Then, draw a wavy line and a curve at the bottom left.
Then, continue drawing some wavy lines along the handle.
Once you’re done drawing lines along the outside of the handle, start adding some inside. We will not burden you with a non-slay basket.
8. Draw Defining Lines in the Basket & Cream
Finally, finish the wooden handle like this:
But also, because we can’t leave our basket base basic, let’s draw some more defining lines.
Then, finish drawing the base like this:
So now, our cream is feeling left out, we need to add some random bracket curves. But make sure to leave a pocket in the middle for the special surpriseāØ
Then, draw another curve above the other side of the basket. There will, in fact, be more cream.
Now, continue drawing cloud-like curves along the bottom. But also, vary their size.
Then, keep going. The cream grind won’t stop until it has to.
So next, keep going part 2.
Then, finish drawing it at the right end.
9. Draw a Black Cat as the Basket’s Starš
So next, erase the offensive line running through your line of cream. Then, add this black cat drawing as our basket starāØ You can learn how to draw this cutie patootie cat here!

How to Color the Basket Line Drawing
Color Parts of the Cat’s Body White
First, color the parts of the cat that shouldn’t be showing white. For instance, his body behind the cream.
I also changed the cream drawing to better cover him more naturally.
Then, draw a soft ‘n’ curve on top the cat’s head for a strawberry.
Add the Flat Colors to the Fruits & Basket
But also, draw the strawberry top. Once that’s done, color the strawberries light red and the basket orange-brown.

So next, color the strawberry leaves green. And that’s his strawberry crown half-complete!
Color the Strawberry Seeds a Faded White
Then, no strawberry is complete without its seeds. So add some faded white dots along the red fruit of each strawberry.
Add Depth to the Fruit and Basket
Next, color the head strawberry a darker red at the bottom. Then, blend it out towards the middle. Today, we’re going for a soft-core lookš.
So now, color the bottom edge of the green top a darker green. This is a slight shadow so if you don’t want to add it, that’s freedom of choice.
Then, start coloring darker brown on the inside of the handle for the shadows (yay on making it this far!).
So now, it’s time for our bestie, the ‘Multiply’ layer. Start adding more shadows on the opposite side of the handle.
MR. BON TIP š: Remember that if you’re using a ‘Multiply’ layer, you can use the same shade you originally colored the basket with.
So next, add shadows to the bottom curve of each mermaid scale shape in the basket base. I did this using the same method as the šMr. Bon’s tipš!
draw a strawberry basket
Then, still in a ‘Multiply’ layer, color red shadows onto each strawberry like so:
Airbrush Highlights in a ‘Screen’ Layer
So now, onto highlights! The strawberry-crowned cat has decreed that his fruit must be glowing.
So in a ‘Screen’ layer, or using a translucent white color, airbrush the center and sides of the crown strawberry.
Then, airbrush the same base brown in a ‘Screen’ layer along some defining lines and in the center of the scales and handle.
So after that, I added a subtle faded highlight in the center of the bigger strawberries.
You can do this by coloring a white circle in the center then lowering the opacity of the layer.
Then, I added a brighter circle in the strawberry centers and blended it out.
Then that’s it. If you made it this far, congratulations! Strawberry-crowned cat needed a partner for his basket-weaving journey and we’re honored to have you as a part of it <3.
