What You’ll Need to Make a Swiss Roll Drawing
I’m not going to gatekeep drawing so you are absolutely welcome to just use what you have to draw with me <3. That includes:
But I will be drawing it digitally on my tablet using the most affordable software I know, Clip Studio Paint.
I got it because I loved that you get access to a continuously-updated vault of free natural brushes and other materials made by pros to speed up & elevate your drawing process, perfect for beginners.
And you get all of that for a lifetime just by paying once (gasp)! Trust me, those monthly membership fees add up and I want you to be happily creating cute art without breaking the bank💵🚫.
But anyways, choose your non-lethal drawing weapon and let’s get started!
How to Draw a Roll Cake Easy Step-by-Step
So first, draw 3/4 of a circle.
Then draw another 3/4 circle inside the first to start forming the back of the cake roll. But also, draw a soft ‘(‘ curve at the bottom.
So next, draw two cat ears – one on either side – as a triangle within another. Then draw a slanting line to help make it more 3-D.

Then let’s clean up those excess bits of the 3/4 circles! But also draw a cloud shape in between the cat ears to create some icing.
So now, draw some quick curves inside to make your icing ball a little more interesting to look at.
So now, draw a dome shape for your main character, strawberry. But also, add some leaves by drawing almond-like shapes between the icing and the strawberry dome.
So after that, I also added some leaves to the insides of the cat ears to create strawberries there too! Then I drew another curved line to the center of the cake to start adding the icing swirl.
So next, complete your swirl as I did below.
Then add two tiny circular eyebrows, pill-shaped eyes, a cat mouth ( as a ‘w’ on top with a ‘u’ below that), and some whiskers!
So after that, draws some semicircles in the icing swirl to create strawberries! I also erased part of the inside 3/4 circle to create better definition.
Then let’s color it together in the next section <3.
How to Color the Swiss Roll Drawing
So now, color the base of the cake a light yellow. But also, add strawberry seeds as little ‘(‘ shapes or dots.
Then color the strawberries a light red as you see below. I also filled in the cat’s eyes and eyebrows with a dark brown.
So now, color the leaves green, the inside of the swirl strawberries pink, and the back part of the cake roll drawing light orange.
Then add some more icing to the ears as a cute detail. These are also super easy cloud shapes.
Next, add some texture to the cake as 16% transparent orange dots and to the icing as similarly transparent pink swirls.
Then, using a ‘Multiply’ layer, or a darker red, draw curved red shadows on the strawberries. This helps them pop.
Finally, add an orange shadow to the bottom of the cake and you’re done!
Then that’s it!
