Mushrooms, frogs, and fairies…that combo puts PB&J to shame so let’s draw a fairy cake drawing in under 5 minutes like a pro!
What You’ll Need to Draw a Fairy Cake
I’m not going to gatekeep drawing so you are absolutely welcome to just use what you have to draw with me <3. That includes:
But I will be drawing it digitally on my tablet using the most affordable software I know, Clip Studio Paint.
I got it because I loved that you get access to a continuously-updated vault of free natural brushes and other materials made by pros to speed up & elevate your drawing process, perfect for beginners.
And you get all of that for a lifetime just by paying once (gasp)! Trust me, those monthly membership fees add up and I want you to be happily creating cute art without breaking the bank💵🚫.
But anyways, choose your non-lethal drawing weapon and let’s get started!
How to Draw a Fairy Cake Step-by-Step
So, this cake is going to be heart-shaped & on an angle to switch it up. So, start by drawing a heart.
Then, draw this long ‘L’ shape & curve it to follow the left side of the heart…a distance below.
Then, complete the guideline for our heart cake like so:
And now, it’s time to add fluffy cloud icing!
You can draw it as if it’s one continuous bundle of curves. I just erased as I went and that’s the way it looked after (a bit tragic).

So repeat that along your bottom heart. We’re really not holding back with the frosting on this one.
Then, erase or hide the guideline layers in CSP. But also, add some grass, mushrooms, and butterflies!
I know that’s a lot but a butterfly is just 4 almond leaf shapes & the towering grass is like many successive climbing hearts.
So now, draw 2 giant mushroom heads like a triangle with a wavy bottom and no pointy edges.
Then, where will a tired frog fairy sit down other than a tree stump? So, draw it under the mushrooms so the fairy has some shade.
The tree stump cut surface is an oval with a wavy bottom while the stalk is a rectangle with a triangle in the middle. Add some grass & shrooms for fun too.
Then, draw a wavy oval around the bottom of the stump for the water & also, add a blob for a frog.
He’s like an oval with 2 semicircles for eyes and “u” shapes for arms and legs.
Then, add fairy wings! This is just the same as your butterfly wings so recall your mastery & work your Picasso into it.
Yay! That’s all for the sketch so let’s start coloring. 👩🎨🏵️
How to Color the Fairy Cake Drawing
So first, add in your greens. I wanted a lot of different shades to make it more interesting. Also, the grass needs to stand out from the cake. She’s a star.
Then, add blue! The concept for this cake is a fairy chilling at a pond so the fluffy icing and puddle underneath the stump are all blue.
Then, color the mushroom heads red or brown, the stalks beige, and the flowers and wings yellow.
I picked an earthy palette but you can do whatever your heart likes.
So now, our first shadows. Since the frosting is supposed to be water, draw dark blue blobs to the side of each object above or in it.
Then, it’s green’s time to shine or shade, really. So, color the bottom or underside of each grass and frog dark green.
Onto the reds and browns, shade the bottom or right of each mushroom head.
So next, onto the highlights so the frog fairies can have their Fenty moment. Draw light blue blobs in the water frosting on the left (opposite to each shadow).
So now, draw white wavy ovals on each red mushroom head for their characteristic spots.
And congrats, that’s all for this fairy cake drawing tutorial!
