But first, here’s one of the free cake coloring pages printable of a cute cat! So snag it below completely free <3.
What You’ll Need to Draw a Strawberry Tanghulu
I’m not going to gatekeep drawing so you are absolutely welcome to just use what you have to draw with me <3. That includes:
But I will be drawing it digitally on my tablet using the most affordable software I know, Clip Studio Paint.
I got it because I loved that you get access to a continuously-updated vault of free natural brushes and other materials made by pros to speed up & elevate your drawing process, perfect for beginners.
And you get all of that for a lifetime just by paying once (gasp)! Trust me, those monthly membership fees add up and I want you to be happily creating cute art without breaking the bank💵🚫.
But anyways, choose your non-lethal drawing weapon and let’s get started!
How to Draw Draw a Strawberry Tanghulu
1. Draw 3 Stacked Strawberries
So first, draw a circle at the top of your page in any color you’d like.
Don’t worry that the circle is 2-3 tones. You can color it like this in the coloring step to reflect the light and shadows later <3.
So now, draw another circle below that.
So next, do the same below the 2nd circle as well. But also draw them unevenly stacked <3.

Then thin out the sides of the circle to form the top strawberry. I didn’t do this for any of the other strawberries out of pure vibes.
2. Draw the Leaves
Then draw a green curve like this for the 1st of 3 strawberry leaves.
Oh look at how these just conveniently fell here when you’re in a drawing mood. Guess that means you should add these to your sketchbook too hehe🧚✏️
So now, add the remaining leaves as more easy curves.

Then repeat that for the other 2 strawberries!
3. Add a Sugar Cast Border
So next, draw a wavy blue line as a border around the top strawberry leaves.
Then continue this border down the right side of the drawing. But make sure to add breaks between for fun.
So after that, make the blue line dip down as if the sugar was frozen mid-drip.
So next, continue the blue lined border along the left side of the drawing.
Then complete it like this!
4. Add a Bamboo Stick
So then, draw a rectangular stick for you to hold your candied strawberries.
5. Draw Yellow Strawberry Seeds
So next, add yellow dots to the strawberries!
How to Color the Strawberry Tanghulu Drawing
1. Color the Sugar Blue and the Stick Beige
Then color the sugar a pale blue. Tanghulu sugar usually has a clear or light blue tint in pictures. But since this is a white background, I picked blue!
Also, color the stick a beige color.
2. Color the Strawberries Red and the Leaves Green
So now, color the leaves green.
Then color the strawberry fruits red.
4. Add a Strawberry Cat Drawing
So after that, add a cat drawing to your strawberry Tanghulu! Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to draw this cute strawberry cat.
5. Add Shadows
Then in a ‘Multiply’ layer or using a darker red, shade a crescent moon-shaped curve along the bottom of each berry.
So now, shade along the left and bottom sides of the sugar cast.

Then darken some of the blue shadows for variation and to emphasize the drips.
So next, add a light blue shadow on the cat where the cat touches the sugar.
This helps show that he’s peeking out from behind the sugar and makes it extra cute <3.
Then, shade some darker beige curves along the stick.
6. Finish with Highlights!
Then it’s time for highlights! Using a yellow airbrush, highlight where you see the pale red line outlining the strawberries.
Oh wow, who dropped these here? It’s a mystery but maybe you can pick them up ahaha?
But also, add a light yellow highlight to the leaves as you see below.
Then finally, add pale blue or white airbrushed highlights to the blue sugar.
Then that’s it!
