What You’ll Need – Flower Cake Drawing Easy
I’m not going to gatekeep drawing so you are absolutely welcome to just use what you have to draw with me <3. That includes:
But I will be drawing it digitally on my tablet using the most affordable software I know, Clip Studio Paint.
I got it because I loved that you get access to a continuously-updated vault of free natural brushes and other materials made by pros to speed up & elevate your drawing process, perfect for beginners.
And you get all of that for a lifetime just by paying once (gasp)! Trust me, those monthly membership fees add up and I want you to be happily creating cute art without breaking the bank💵🚫.
But anyways, choose your non-lethal drawing weapon and let’s get started!
How to Make a Flower Cake Drawing Easy
So first, draw a wide oval towards the top of your page using a brown pen. I have a set of broken lines but that’s because I erase while drawing hehe👩🎨✨
It was once upon a time, a circle.
Then, keep those broken lines going down vertically & draw some wavy lines at the bottom to make the cake frosting.
…this is the curses of erasing all the lines you don’t need before making the tutorial.
I got tired of seeing my flower cake look SO sad and added all the tulips in at once.
But, each leaf is like a wavy almond or pea pod shape, the flower stems are curved parallel lines, and the tulips are a ‘u’ with a wavy top.
So now, pray tell what’s missing in those gaps? Ducks. 🦆🐥
So, draw a small oval for its beak and a ‘n’ starting from the midpoint of the oval to end parallel to it.
Then, draw a wavy line beside the ‘n’, drag it down to jut out, loop back, and curve in to meet the oval for the duck’s body.
So next, draw a leaf stem and 3 petals to start making a lotus flower.
Then, keep drawing more petals extended up to make a full lotus flower.
So next, draw soft icicles as icing dripping down. In this case, it’s just like water🌊 It’s easy to draw if you just draw a wavy line going up and down.
Then, draw your next duck as a sideways tulip for its body with a ‘n’ curve to give the duck a head, and an edgeless diamond for the duck’s beak.
So now, for the duck looking over its shoulder, draw a heart and add a bump on the left side of the heart. Then, add its beak on the top right side.
As for the duck taking a dive, that’s just like the tulip flower.
So, now that you have the hang of things, let’s make more lotus flowers!🪷✨
Here’s this one complete:
Then, now we need lily pads so draw a Pacman shape or a 3/4 circle if you’re a bit uncultured for the 1st lily pad.
Then, draw some more circles for the other lily pads. But also, lotus flowers & tear drop shapes for petals.
Yay, that’s all for the sketch so let’s get coloring!
How to Color the Flower Cake Drawing
So first, color the top of the cake light blue since we’re going to make it water.
Then, color the middle of the cake light green.
So next, color the lily pads light green too and the flower stems and leaves dark green.
Then, color the duck bodies yellow, their beaks and the flower centers orange, and the flowers pink.
I took a huge coloring step but it’s really just using the fill tool so live laugh color👩🎨🎨
So now, shade the ducks where you see below. The shadows are cast behind the duck’s heads and along the bottom of each duck.
Then, our lily pads need their contour moment so shade below the flowers on each lily pad by tracing their outer edges.
So next, shade green in the center of each lily pad and concentrate it in the middle with a darker shadow.
This is supposed to give the vibes of a lily pad sunken under water so it looks cute.
Then, shade a diagonal pink shadow on each tulip and the inside of each lotus flower, especially the outer petals. 🪷🧚
So now, shade green under each icicle by tracing its edge.
Then, draw dark blue blobs around the flowers and lily pads.
So next, draw more dark blue blobs under the ducks.
So after that, draw pale blue blobs for highlights in the water.
Finally, draw tiny white lines around each duck for the water ripples and yayay, that’s it!
