What You’ll Need to Draw a Fancy Cake
How to Draw a Fancy Cake Step by Step
1. Draw the 1st Cake Layer
So first, draw some cloud-like frosting for the bottom of our fancy cake.
Then, draw a vertical line curved in at the top on each side to start forming the cake base.
And oop- in one big step, draw soft icicles of varying lengths. It’s easy if you just draw a wavy line with some big and small waves.
But it’s also coquette season so let’s draw 3 bows on the cake. A bow is just a circle and 2 triangles without pointy edges.
Then, we need some fancy icing for a fancy cake so draw 2 wavy lines a digit apart between the left side of the cake and the left bow.
But also, draw some tiny lines inside for fun.
Then, repeat that for each bow until you have a coquette girly’s dream:
2. Draw the Next Carousel Layer
I’d say this is a surprise but you scrolled past the cover image to get here so yay, carousel time! Start by drawing its base.
Then, fill the gap from the last step with 2 lines curved inwards.
So since you’ve done it once, you can draw cloud-like frosting and mini bows again!
But if you feel like a fish out of water, the frosting is just 2 wavy lines. The bows are 2 loops with a circle in the middle and 2 rectangles with a triangle taken out the bottom for the ribbons.
Then, another big step, drawing the cats.🐈⬛✨
The cat’s head is a circle and the body is a rectangle so use that as a base, erase unwanted bits, & add ears, legs, and a tail.
So back on the wavy line train, the ride pillars are parallel wavy lines of different widths apart. I also added another bow for my coquette people in the back. 🎀
Now, draw the roof of the carousel with some bold ‘u’ and ‘v’ curves.
Then, finish it like so:
So now, draw lines extending up and converging towards the center because what’s a carousel without that striped touch?
Then, since this is still a cake, draw another cloud-like frosting at the top.
Did you think it was over? Well, now we need a cat’s head so draw 2 soft brackets, ‘(‘ and 2 incomplete triangles for the ears.
Then, add one last bow in between the ears and copy this face or whatever expression makes your heart sing.
That’s it for the sketch so congrats on getting this far & let’s get our Bob Ross coloring on!
How to Color a Fancy Cake Step by Step
1. Add Flat Colors
So first, color orange where you see below. Now, it’s time to turn off your brain and just fill blank space.

So next, add pink.
Then, dark pink!
Finally for the flats, add your blue. I picked these as funky carousel colors so if these grate against your aesthetic senses, try a new color combo 🙂
2. Add the Shadows
So now, open a new multiply layer & add your pink shadows first. I picked the right side for each shadow.
Trace the line work you’ve done with a pink pen for head empty shading.
Then, it’s blue’s turn!
The last shading goes to orange. For the icing, add orange scribbles in a multiply layer then lower the opacity.
But also, draw 3 curved orange lines in the center & trace the bottom edge.
3. Fenty Highlights
Finally, add highlights using a white pen on the left side of the cake.
